Graeme Smith has extensive experience in all facets of industrial relations and employment law extending over 20 years.
As senior partner, Graeme advises major companies in the manufacturing, transport, food, banking, paper and timber industries as well as several significant public sector bodies such as the Australian Federal Police and the Victoria Police.
Experience
Graeme specialises in workplace strategy, including the introduction of workplace change, restructuring and enterprise bargaining. He has advised many of Australia's largest employers on employee relations issues that affect their business.
Graeme's many and varied clients include Toyota, Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi, ANZ, National Australia Bank, Crown Casino, Heinz, Amcor, Australian Paper, Carter Holt Harvey, Orica, QANTAS, Cadbury Schweppes and Coca Cola.
He has also provides advice to the Business Council of Australia and represented the council in Senate inquiries into the Workplace Relations Act 1996 (Cth).
Professional background
Graeme has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Melbourne. Graeme joined Freehills in 1980, and was admitted to the partnership in 1986.
Graeme is a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute, the Industrial Relations Society of Victoria and the International Bar Association.
