Current practice
Paul is a partner in Freehills’ Litigation group.
Paul’s practice has involved him representing clients in a wide range of commercial disputes involving negotiations, mediations, arbitrations and court litigation. In particular, he has acted in substantial trade practices, major taxation, corporations and product liability litigation.
Paul has written articles and presented papers on various legal issues.

Some of the recent matters on which Paul has been involved include:
General commercial
- advice and defending clients in a range of matters involving allegations of breach of contract, tortious duties and the Trade Practices Act
- International Chamber of Commerce arbitration involving multinational corporations, and
- various other high value litigation in state and federal courts.
Taxation
- major litigation under Part IVA for large public Australian companies
- acting for a large public Australian company regarding deductibility of amounts in respect of a large Victorian infrastructure project, and
- taxation litigation involving activities in the North-West Shelf and application of double tax treaties to those activities.
Mergers & acquisitions and securities market
- hostile takeover litigation involving major corporations
- schemes of arrangement in the Federal and Supreme Courts, and
- complex multi-party disputes involving financial products and pricing.
Energy & resources
- complex contractual disputes involving mining industry participants
- extended litigation involving trade practices and competition law in relation to gas sales contracts, and
- advice and judicial review of regulators’ pricing decisions.
Professional background
Paul is a solicitor of the Supreme Courts of New South Wales and Victoria, and is admitted to practice in the Federal Courts of Australia.
He has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University.
