Mary was appointed Executive Counsel in July 2009 reflecting her significant experience and the broad range of her practice which straddles corporate and finance.
Experience
Finance
Mary has substantial banking and finance experience acting for financial institutions, investment banks and borrowers. Mary has worked in a wide range of financing transactions including corporate, property and project finance. She has also drafted loan and security standard documents and provided advice on a wide range of financing issues.
Mary’s finance work has included acting for:
- the State of Queensland and Queensland Treasury Corporation in the novel supported debt model financing for the SEQ Schools PPP Project
- Flight Centre Limited in its A$320 million syndicated financing involving many of its international subsidiaries, and
- a borrower in a syndicated secured and guaranteed construction facility for a Brisbane project.
Corporate
Mary is a member of the Freehills Head Office Advisory Team (HOAT) which specialises in providing advice focussing on head office advisory matters to company secretaries, corporate counsel and directors and executives on a broad range of corporate law issues. HOAT advises on existing legal requirements, and practical ramifications of corporate law reform, and gives insights into current corporate practice and trends in regulatory and corporate policies.
Mary has considerable advisory and transactional corporate experience which includes negotiating and advising on commercial contracts, acting in acquisitions and disposals of businesses and in shareholder arrangements, and preparing due diligence reports.
Professional background
Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Sydney.
