Benefits of working in litigation
Our working environment is professional, yet people often comment on how approachable and friendly our people are. The many dedicated people who work in the group have a diversity of backgrounds and interests and there are many opportunities to make new friends and meet interesting colleagues to work with.Another distinguishing feature is the outstanding graduate and group training program that the litigation practice offers. The partners place great importance on learning and career development hence they have invested considerable time and effort to ensure they provide practical and valuable litigation training.
Furthermore, the litigation practice has a strong coaching culture. Each lawyer is given the opportunity to identify a coach or mentor who will support them through the various issues they may encounter while working in the practice.
What sorts of work does a lawyer do in litigation?
The litigation practice includes administrative law, arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, commercial litigation, competition and market regulation, corporate regulatory, insurance, turnaround and insolvency, defamation and media, product liability, project dispute resolution and tax litigation and dispute resolution. This broad range of areas complements the commercial nature of Freehills' practice and draws on our experience to assist clients identify and, where possible, avoid potential conflict. If a dispute arises that cannot be resolved through mediation or other alternative dispute resolution methods, we are well placed to protect clients' interests through the courts. One of the distinguishing factors that sets us apart from other firms practising in this area is the total management approach which we bring to a dispute. We work with each client to identify commercial objectives and develop a clear plan or strategy to manage the dispute. Our partners and lawyers evaluate not only the legal ramifications, but the commercial and economic effects, of each dispute.
