Freehills scoops top securitisation specialist
18 May 2005Freehills announced today the appointment of Ms Tessa Hoser as a partner in its Banking & Finance group, effective from 1 July 2005.
Tessa is one of Australia's most experienced and respected securitisation practitioners. As a partner at Blake Dawson Waldron she was heavily involved in building that firm's securitisation capacity. Her combined local and international experience through years in private practice and in—house have given Tessa a unique perspective.
In making the announcement, Freehills' chief executive officer, Peter Hay, said, 'We are very pleased and excited to have been able to bring such a talented legal professional on board. Tessa brings to Freehills an extensive background in the local and international debt capital markets and securitisation arenas and will add significantly to the already strong presence the firm holds within those sectors of the market.

As well as having recently been identified as a leading practitioner by IFLR's Top 1000 Lawyers and Global Counsel 3000, Tessa has been involved in three of the eight deals short-listed for Australasian Legal Businesses's 2005 Securitisation Deal of the Year.

As a high—profile securitisation law specialist, Tessa's experience includes significant periods in private practice and in-house in the UK as European Counsel and Director of Citigroup Alternative Investments. The key areas of her practice are securitisation, structured credit products and derivatives.
Having worked extensively in debt capital markets and securitisation over the years, Tessa has dealt with Australian domestic, Euromarket and US SEC registered and privately placed securities issues. Tessa has acted for issuers, arrangers, warehouse funders and swap counterparties both in transactional and advisory capacities. She regularly speaks about and writes on securitisations, CDOs, APRA—related and other regulatory issues.
Some of Tessa's recent matters include acting for:
- Grange Securities and Lehman Bros. on the establishment of the Mahogany retail CDO programme
- Bank of New York in various capacities, including National Australia Bank's $2.5 billion 2004–1 global RMBS programme
- SG as note subscriber/swap provider under CNH's dealer floor plan securitisation
- Perpetual Trustees on the Queensland Cotton and Swan US Trust securitisations
- Commonwealth Bank of Australia, AussieMac, and Conquest on securitisation facilities.
