Current practice

Michelle Hullett is a partner in the Perth office of Freehills.

She practises in the Commercial Litigation area focusing on administrative law, native title, liquor licensing, mining law and media and defamation law and also has expertise in the intellectual property and trade practices areas.

Industry experience

Michelle practises as a barrister and solicitor and undertakes counsel work, often appearing in Court. She acts for major corporations and her clients have included Coles Myer Ltd, Multiplex Constructions, Argyle Diamond Mines, Futuris Corporation, WMC, Hamersley Iron, Perron and Dominion Mining.


She has been involved in major litigation and in the most recent edition of 'Legal Profiles' is named as a leading Perth practitioner in two of her areas of practice.

Professional background

Michelle is currently a member of the Board of Management of Freehills' Perth office, being elected to that position in 1997.

Michelle graduated in law from the University of Western Australia in 1984. She joined Freehills in 1984 and was admitted to the partnership in 1992, the Perth office's first female partner. In the late 1980s she spent 18 months with Freehills' Melbourne office, concentrating on intellectual property and trade practices.

Michelle is a former Councillor of the Law Society of Western Australia, having been elected for a two-year term in 1996. She serves on Law Society committees including the Courts and Administrative Law Committees. She has previously been a member of the Equal Opportunity, Law Practice Management and Intellectual Property Committees.

She is entered on the Register of Women (Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet).
