Brett is a registered patent and trade marks attorney in Australia and New Zealand. His particular expertise is in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering processes and apparatus including metallurgy, advanced materials, nanotechnology, minerals processing, electrochemistry, ceramics, petrochemical processes. Brett is also experienced in materials and devices for medical, surgical and optical application.

Professional background

After graduating from the University of Queensland with the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical), Brett Connor joined the Australian Patent Office as an Examiner, examining applications in the materials, metallurgical, petrochemical and ceramics fields.

In 1987, Brett joined the Patent Department of Australia’s largest mining company working in the steel technology, minerals and petroleum areas.

Brett joined one of the predecessor firms of Freehills in 1989 and was registered as a Patent Attorney in 1991.

Brett worked in the patent profession in Japan from August 1992 to August 1993 to improve his knowledge of Japan, Japanese intellectual property practice and Japanese language skills.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Marks Attorney of Australia and is a member of the APAA, LESANZ and Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand, IChemE and Engineer Australia.
