Current practice

Peter Rowe specialises in the areas of funds management and charity law. He has also practised extensively in securitisation. Before joining Freehills, Peter worked for over eight years with one of Australia’s leading trustee companies. As a result his practical experience in the management and administration of trusts, in addition to his wide experience as a lawyer in the funds management and securitisation fields, is unique. According to PLC Which Lawyer Peter is one of Australia’s leading advisers in the area of funds management and he has been given the highest ranking in this area.

Industry experience

Since joining Freehills in 1986, Peter has been active on behalf of fund managers in the establishment and administration of a wide range of retail and wholesale investment vehicles. He regularly advises on all aspects of retail and wholesale funds management and advising clients in respect of the Corporations Act, including financial services. He has been involved in the IPO of a number of trusts as well as in the takeover and merger of  trusts. He recently led the Freehills team for the restructure of the Deutsche Property Trusts. His clients include domestic and offshore fund managers.

Professional background

Peter is the head of the firm’s Financial Services (Investment Products and Insurance) group. He was a member of the firm’s pro-bono committee for 14 years and was a member of the Securities Institute of Australia International Advisory Group. He is also a director of the Centre for Volunteering and an external member of a funds management client’s audit and risk committee.

Peter has lectured on many occasions on matters affecting securitisation and unit trusts in Australia and overseas and has been consulted by regulators in Australia and offshore on funds management issues.
