Stephen has a broad corporate commercial practice focusing on the negotiation and implementation of acquisitions and divestments of businesses for Australian and international clients, joint ventures, securities industry law and general contractual advice.

Stephen also offers expert advice in insurance law (especially professional indemnity), insolvency, white collar crime and transport/logistics.

Industry experience

Recent matters on which Stephen has worked include:

• the sale of Mayne Group Limited's Interlink Linehaul and Ipec Road Freight businesses
• the sale of Ansell Limited's optical fibre production and distribution businesses
• the sale of Mayne Group Limited's MSS Security business
• the defence of insider trading charges
• advising the Administrator of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria on the transfer of its personal injury liabilities and insurance rights.
  
  

Professional background

Stephen joined Freehills as a partner in its corporate practice in 1995. Prior to joining Freehills, Stephen was a partner for six years at another leading Melbourne law firm, and also worked for a year in London. His experience prior to 1995 also includes structuring and advising on R&D syndications, advising on directors liabilities and high level commercial litigation.

Stephen is admitted to practice in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, England and Wales and in the Federal and High Courts.
