Paul was previously a partner with another leading patent attorney firm in Melbourne and joined Freehills Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys in 1998 (then known as Freehills Carter Smith Beadle). Paul is a graduate of The University of Melbourne and is a registered patent attorney who has practised in all areas of international patent law.Industry experience
Paul began his career with the Australian Patent Office in Canberra in 1972 and has subsequently worked for 26 years in private practice. Paul has particular expertise in the area of patents in the fields of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, with particular expertise in polymer chemistry. Paul also has extensive experience in pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, optics, biotechnology and business process patents. Paul has also acted extensively in the trade mark field, both in Australia and overseas.Professional background
Paul is an Associate of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and a Member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association, the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (Australia Group) Inc. (AIPPI) and Federation Internationale des Conseil En Propriete Industrielle (FICPI). Paul lectures extensively in Australia and overseas at conferences and seminars, and regularly presents seminars on intellectual property issues for Freehills clients.Paul holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chemistry) Degree from The University of Melbourne and is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent Trade Marks Attorneys of Australia.
