Chris is a partner in the Banking & Finance group. His practice is focused on acquisition finance, syndicated and bilateral lending, debt capital markets issues and property financing.

Industry experience

Chris has advised:

  • the bank syndicate which financed the acquisition of Coles by Wesfarmers Limited, the largest syndicated facility to date in the Australian market
  • Credit Suisse on financing for bids for Qantas, the Myer retail business, Patricks Corporation, 3M Pharmaceuticals and NZ Yellow Pages
  • nabCapital, Westpac, BOSI and Suncorp on the financing of the acquisition of retirement villages by the RVG group
  • Westpac, nabCapital and GE on the financing of the acquisition of five logistics businesses by Gresham Private Equity
  • UBS AG on the financing of the acquisition of the WACO group by CCMP Asia
  • Archer Capital on the acquisition of Rebel Sport by scheme of arrangement
  • BOS International on the financing of the acquisition of Barminco by Gresham Private Equity
  • Macquarie Bank on the financing of the acquisition of RG Capital Radio and DMG Regional Radio by Macquarie Regional Media Fund
  • Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group on the financing of the acquisitions of Airwave and National Grid Wireless in the United Kingdom

  • BOS International and National Australia Bank Limited on the financing of the acquisition of Mincom Limited by Francisco Partners
  • Dexus Property in connection with the $1.4 billion of debt raised in connection with the stapling of four listed property trusts and concurrent acquisitions of assets in the USA and New Zealand and subsequent refinancings
  • Royal Bank of Scotland and Commonwealth Bank of Australia on the financing of mining equipment leased to the Leightons Group
  • ABN AMRO as arranger and underwriter of the credit wrapped bond issue used to finance construction of the Lane Cove Tunnel
  • Macquarie Bank on the financing of the acquisition of a portfolio of New South Wales hotels
  • Investa Property Group on the financing of its successful hostile $1.9 billion takeover bid for Principal Office Fund

Professional background

Chris Robertson joined Freehills in 1992 and became a partner in 1999. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the University of Sydney and has been admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
