Current practice

Ron Spackman is a partner in the Corporate group, specialising in financial services.

Ron joined the firm’s Sydney office in 1987 after practising for 10 years in Canada where he was a partner in a major commercial law firm. Since joining Freehills, his practice has embraced mergers and acquisitions, cross-border aircraft leasing, joint ventures (including equity funding for toll road and other infrastructure consortia), financings and public offerings—including the Sydney Olympic Stadium float and the privatisation and float of the New South Wales Totalizator Agency Board.

Industry experience

In addition to his broad expertise in corporate/commercial matters, Ron has extensive experience in all aspects of retail and wholesale funds management, including licensing, product disclosure statements, constitutions and outsourcing agreements.

His clients include Credit Suisse Asset Management, Stadium Australia, Lend Lease, MLC, Deutsche Asset Management, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.

Professional background

Ron holds Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Sydney and has taught the undergraduate corporate law course at the University of Technology, Sydney. He is a member of the Regulatory and Consumer Affairs Forum of the Investment and Financial Services Association.
