Current practice

Hamish has been a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation group since 2005. He acts in major ‘document intensive’ building and construction disputes (both litigation and arbitration). Hamish has experience in the following types of litigious matters including:

  • construction disputes in the Supreme Court of South Australia
  • injunctive proceedings and construction disputes in the New South Wales Supreme Court
  • administrative matters in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Federal Court
  • large commercial arbitrations, and
  • complex matters in the Federal Court.

Industry experience

Hamish’s recent industry experience includes:
  • acting for United Group in a construction dispute in the Supreme Court of South Australia arising out of a blast furnace reline project
  • advising Mitsui in relation to ‘process plant’ disputes arising from the output performance of several water treatment plants in Victoria
  • acting on behalf of the New South Wales Waterways Authority to defend proceedings brought by an unsuccessful tenderer in relation to the redevelopment of the Finger Wharf at Woolloomooloo in Sydney
  • defending TAB Limited in a series of commercial arbitrations arising from claims for additional Product Fees totalling approximately $200 million on fixed odds wagering by New South Wales Racing
  • acting for TAB Limited in a dispute with Keycorp relating to computer chips which had been installed in all gaming machines across New South Wales
  • advising Energy Australia in relation to a dispute with Hummingbird and Solution 6 over software performance for Energy Australia’s national electronic archiving system, and
  • advising Sky Channel in relation to a dispute with Victorian race broadcaster ThoroughVision, relating to broadcast of race meetings conducted by the Australian Jockey Club and the Sydney Turf Club.

Professional background

Hamish holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University. Hamish is currently enrolled in the Master of Laws (LLM) degree offered by the University of New South Wales.
