Current practice

Simon is a director of Greenwoods & Freehills. He joined the firm in December 1994 and was appointed a director on 26 June 1995.

Industry experience

Simon has 19 years experience covering all aspects of corporate tax advice. His current clients include companies in the property, funds management, property development and financial sectors.

Prior to joining Greenwoods & Freehills, Simon was a senior tax manager with one of the major international accounting firms. 
 
Simon is involved in providing day-to-day and transactional income tax and GST advice, particularly in the property and funds management areas. He is involved in providing advice regarding acquisitions, restructurings and financing in relation to various major property and trust transactions. He has also provided advice in relation to wholesale trusts and a range of syndication products. Simon also provides advice in relation to tax audits and international tax issues. He has recently been involved in coordinating tax advice for clients making investments in the USA, UK, Asia, New Zealand and various parts of Europe.

He has also been extensively involved in assessing the implications of the tax reform on clients including involvement in lobbying on GST, entity tax and consolidation issues.

Professional background

Simon holds Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Sydney. He is a qualified chartered accountant and an associate of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Simon is a member of the Property Council's National Tax Group. He has presented papers for the TIA and various other seminar organisers.
