Joanne specialises in major energy and infrastructure projects and acquisitions, with particular experience in independent power projects and gas development and pipeline projects. She has acted for both project sponsors and financiers.

Industry experience

Independent power project

  • Advised the lenders to the EDL West Kimberley power and LNG project.
  • Advised International Power in relation to the refinancing of the Loy Yang B power project.
  • Advised the developer (Sechilienne-Sidec) in relation to the 30MW Saint Aubin coal fired power station in Mauritius.
  • Advised the lenders to the Esperance power station and gas pipeline project.
  • Advised the developer (InterGen) in relation to a 800MW CCGT independent power project at Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
  • Advised the developer (General Electric) in relation to the Baglan Bay gas-fired independent power project in South Wales. 
  • Advised the developer (InterGen) in relation to the 860MW independent power project at Spalding, England.
  • Advised the developer (InterGen) in relation to a 750MW CCGT independent power project at Coryton, England.
  • Advised the developer (ESB) in relation to tolling arrangements for a 800MW CCGT independent power project in Spain.
  • Advised the state oil and gas company (Petrobras) in relation to various gas-fired power and co-generation projects in Brazil.
  • Advised the lenders in connection with a bid for the Valley Power generation plant.

Oil and gas projects

  • Advised the lenders to the GasNet Telfer and Nifty gas pipeline projects.
  • Advised the lenders to Envestra’s bid for the Duke Australia pipeline assets.
  • Advised the lenders to GasNet’s bid for the EPIC MAPS assets.
  • Advised the lenders in connection with a bid for the Trans Territory Pipeline project.
  • Advised the project company in relation to a development and production sharing agreement in connection with the Dolphin gas pipeline project in the UAE.
  • Advising the lenders to the Epic Energy refinancing of various pipeline assets.
  • Advised various multinational companies in relation to the acquisition of upstream and midstream oil and gas interests; including advising on production sharing, unitisation, operating services and joint operating agreements.
  • Advised Bord Gais on a regulatory code for the Irish gas network.
  • Advising various companies in connection with gas sales, allocation and transportation agreements.

Renewable energy project

  • Advised the lenders to the Stanwell Corporation / Griffin Energy Emu Downs wind farm project in Western Australia.
  • Advised Pacific Hydro in connection with a bid for the acquisition of the ResEnergys wind and solar assets in Europe and Brazil.
  • Advised the lenders to the 46MW International Power Canunda wind farm project in South Australia.
  • Advised the developer (Sechilienne-Sidec) in connection with the 74MW Savannah bagasse and coal fired power station in Mauritius.
  • Advising the developer (Pacific Hydro) in respect of various wind farm and hydrogeneration projects in Australia, Chile and Fiji.

PFI/PPP

  • Advised the monoline insurer in connection with the financing of the Melbourne Convention Centre PPP project.
  • Advised the lenders to one of the bidders in relation to a PFI defence project in the UK.
  • Advised a bidder in relation to the UK Criminal Records Bureau PFI project.

Professional background

Joanne was admitted to the Freehills partnership on 1 January 2007.

Joanne is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Melbourne.
