Current practice
Marnie is a special counsel in our Projects section, specialising in construction law.
She has substantial experience working for clients in both the private and public sectors on commercial infrastructure projects, including construction and engineering, mining, water, power and transport projects. Her experience covers tendering and procurement contracts, services and supply contracts, as well as alliancing and other forms of relationship-based contracts.

Examples of these include:
- Adviser to Wesfarmers on various construction projects, including the construction contract for the Kwinana LNG plant and for its bid for Western Power’s SWIS Power Procurement, including negotiating the EPC contract with Hitachi.
- Adviser to Mitsubishi Australia on a supply and technical services contract for the Tamar Valley power plant.
- Adviser to Argyle Diamond on drafting underground mining contract.
- Adviser to Water Corporation of Western Australia on various construction projects, including the preparation of standard form General Conditions of Contract for major and minor works, services, agency and consultant contracts.
- Adviser to Main Roads of Western Australian for the Roe Highway Stage 7 upgrade.
Outsourcing and procurement projects
- Adviser to Verve Energy on review and preparation of standard form contracts.
- Adviser to the Department of Defence on review and preparation of its procurement contracts.
- Adviser to Vodafone on 3G network upgrade in Australia and New Zealand.
Water
- Adviser to the Water Corporation of Western Australia on various projects, including the Perth desalinated water plant and various water supply projects on the Burrup Peninsula including Burrup Fertilisers.
- Adviser to Fichtner Consulting and the Public Utilities Board of Singapore for the Singaporean Desalination Facility project.
Professional background
Marnie has a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Australia, and was admitted to practice in 1990.
She joined Freehills in 1990, and was made a special counsel in 2005.
