Freehills announced as legal adviser for T3 scoping study
05 April 2005The Minister for Finance and Administration, Senator Nick Minchin, has announced that the Department of Finance and Administration has appointed Freehills as the Legal Adviser for the Telstra Scoping Study, following the completion of a competitive tender process.
As Legal Adviser, Freehills will provide legal advice on all issues surrounding the scoping study and processes relating to the possible sale of the Australian Government’s remaining shareholding in Telstra.
The Department of Finance and Administration has an option to continue Freehills’ legal advisory role for a sale process, if the government proceeds to a sale.
Freehills is a major Australian law firm with a strong capital markets practice. Freehills was the government’s Legal Adviser in both the T1 and T2 sales.
It was one of five firms invited to lodge tenders for the Legal Adviser role, following a nationally advertised request for Expressions of Interest. The tenders received were of a very high standard reflecting the importance of this assignment.
The Department of Finance and Administration has also appointed the Australian Government Solicitor as 'in-house' counsel to the Department of Finance and Administration for the Telstra Scoping Study and possible sale.
As part of the Australian Government’s measures to ensure best practice, AGS will provide contractual advice and legal support to the Department of Finance and Administration from a Government perspective.
Freehills and the AGS join other advisors appointed to date including: Sparke Helmore (Probity Advisor); Gavin Anderson & Company (Communications Advisor); UBS (Business Advisor); and Caliburn Partnership (Business Advisor).
