On 16 November 2007, the Australian Domain Name Administrator (auDA) released its draft Strategic Plan 2008-2010 (plan) for public comment. The plan sets out auDA’s priorities in pursuing its overall objective of fostering a sustainable industry self-regulatory environment over the next few years, as administrator of the .au country code top level domain and associated second level domains. The plan identifies key external and internal challenges that auDA is likely to face. It also prescribes a number of strategic initiatives:
- enabling and enforcing regulatory compliance through improving awareness and reviewing complaint handling mechanisms
- reviewing and developing a new policy for the administration of the .au domain
- maximising security and technical stability of the .au domain name space
- educating stakeholders about auDA’s role in the .au domain name space
- improving efficiency in the administration of auDA’s activities, and
- acting as the international forum-representative for the Australian Internet industry.
The closing date for public submissions on the plan is 14 December 2007.
